Abstract: Sexual problems in children living at child welfare facilities and support provided for such problems were reviewed. Reporting abuse in facilities has become obligatory under the revised Child Welfare Act. As a result of the revision, awareness of risks not only of child abuse by staff, but also sexual abuse among children has increased. Moreover, there is a wide spread recognition that such problems can happen at any facility. However, preventive support suitable for each facility and its effects have not been sufficiently examined to date. In order to concretely identify preventive support for sexual problems among children, there is a need to investigate the awareness of children, and of staff directly involved with children. Preventive support suitable for each facility should be continuously provided based on the results of such investigations. Moreover, the effects support that is provided should be examined. It is suggested that the provision of more effective support would be effective for preventing the recurrence of sexual problems among children.
